The DCI has recruited excellent teachers from all over the world and has a stable international team from many countries. Two-thirds of the professional courses and all the core courses are taught by international teachers, including teachers from the CNAM. Recently, CNAM sent Dr. Mark Plimmer, a physicist, to teach students. Let's get to know this teacher, Dr. Plimmer!

The course Dr. Plimmer taught to the students of the Institute isThe Science of Circuits: Analog Devices.

Dr. Plimmer graduated from Birmingham University in 1985 with a Bachelor’s degree in Physics with the first-class honor.

His doctoral thesis at the University of Oxford (1985-89) was entitled Laser Spectroscopy of Atomic Systems.

After postdoctoral work at Yale University (1989-91) and Ecole Normale Supérieure (1991-1995), he became a lecturer in instrumentation at the CNAM, Paris, a post he has held for most of the time ever since.

From the year 2004 to 2007, he was a visiting scientist at University of Oxford where he worked with Prof. Joshua Silver first on laser spectroscopy of highly charged ions, then on vision self-correction using adjustable spectacles.

Although Dr. Plimmer’s research activities are diversified, his primary interest is atomic physics. Since re-joining CNAM as a full-time staff in 2007, Dr. Plimmer has been a visiting scientist in several laboratories, notably the National Physical Laboratory, UK, and NIM and TIPC-CAS, China.

He is the author of 42 papers in international peer-reviewed journals, and has published more than 100 papers in total, including conference minutes, posters, and seminars (in both French and English).

Thank you very much! The DCI always welcomes you!
