Recently, good news came from the Organizing Committee of the American College Students' Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM / ICM). The DCI students were honored with the meritorious winner of the 2020 American College Students' Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM / ICM). This is also the best result that students fromtheDongguan University of Technology have ever achieved in participating in the Contest over the years. The winning team members are Lan Jing, Xu Kangye and Zhong Zhentao of 2017 Software Engineering major, and the faculty advisor is Ruan Xuxian.

According to the data released by the Organizing Committee of American College Students' Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM / ICM), the 2020 American College Students' Mathematical Contest in Modeling attracted more than 60,000 students in 20,950 teams from famous universities in many countries and regions all over the world, including Cambridge University, University of California, Cornell University, University of Washington, University of Columbia, Tsinghua University, and Peking University.

It is no accident that DCI students have emerged in the 2020 American College Students' Mathematical Contest in Modeling. Based on the advantageous majors and excellent international teaching staff of Dongguan University of Technology and Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, DCI carries out the pattern of small class teaching in English in all the courses, lays a solid professional foundation of science and engineering, pays attention to the cultivation of practice and innovation ability, adheres to the teaching concept of "promoting teaching and learning through competition", and encourages students to actively participate in disciplinary competitions.

The participants are currently studying in France. Their initial interest in mathematical modeling stems from the inspiration of Professor Eric Soutil (Professor in Operations Research of CNAM, CNAM Computer Science Research Center, member of combinatorial optimization team and member of Cedric laboratory) during their study in France. Professor Eric Soutil vividly described algorithms, modeling and other related contents in class, so that the participants gradually sprouted passion for mathematical modeling. The participants spent two months preparing for the contest. In the process of preparing for the contest, as it was the first time to participate in the contest, they read many books and reference materials of relevant disciplines, referred to the winning papers of previous competitions, learned experience from them, overcame the impact of the French epidemic, and finally achieved the excellent results of the First Prize.

American College Students Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM / ICM), sponsored by the American Federation of Mathematics and its applications, is a famous international mathematical contest in modeling and one of the most influential mathematical contests in modeling in the world. The contest covers many fields, such as economy, management, environment, resources, ecology, medicine, safety, and so on. The contest requires a group of three (undergraduates) to complete all the work fromthemodel establishment, solution, verification to paper writing on the specified problems within four days, reflecting the contestants' ability to analyze and study problems, propose solutions and teamwork spirit. It is the originator of all kinds of mathematical contests in modeling.
